Day Eight: Mustacheland and the Magic Fort

Day 8 January 29th, 2009

Today was a full day of touring around the city of Jaisalmer. We had a nice lunch over looking the city below the fort. In the picture below you will see (starting at left going clockwise) Reshmi Kabob with minced mutton (goat) and yogurt sauce, Bhindi Masala (eggplant) and an egg curry.
After lunch we passed by the barber, with not enough time for a badly needed haircut I thought that I would take the opportunity to fit in with the Indians a bit better and shave my beard. Although my mustache is not quite up to par with most Rajasthanis I do receive a bit more street cred. Just after the shave, one of the local shoe shiners came up to me to compliment me on my nice 'stache.
More pics of India 'staches to come.

Freshly shaved, we headed for the desert for a romantic sunset camel ride through the surrounding dunes.
We ate dinner at a restaurant recommended by our driver called the Park View Restaurant. The food was decent and the beer the cheapest we have seen so far in India. Wanting to try the indian version of Chinese food we ordered a Sweet n' Sour Chicken. The dish consisted of a very tender and breaded chicken in a thick sauce that was actually sweet and sour. We also ordered (starting from the top going clockwise) Chinese Style Fried Rice, Sweet n' Sour Chicken, Paneer Chat (Cheese like appetizer sprinkled with spices,) Dhal Mahknai (lentils, tomato, onion and spices) and Lal Maas (Goat with a curry sauce.)

This is a Picture taken in one of the Jain temples in Jaisalmer. The Jains are so protective of living things that many of them often where masks on thier mouths to prevent themselves from inhaling bugs and killing them.
