Day Twenty Three: Calcutta's Quieter Parts

Day Twenty Three February 13th, 2009

India has struck again, up quite a bit last night I slept in. After a few bananas and a water I feel confident enough to go more than a block from my hotel. One large block from my hotel is Calcutta's equivalent to New York's Central Park. It is humongous and in the southern half is Victoria Memorial, a large Washington Capitol like building build for Queen Victoria. The grounds is a wonderful escape from the honking and dust of the city. I toured the building which includes a collection of paintings by European artists and an extensive explanation of the British creation and the occupation of the city.
